Go with me back to the early 1940s when the now Sandals Royal Bahamian was known to the elite as the Balmoral Club. The Duke of Windsor had been sent to the island of Nassau, Bahamas, to serve as Governor after declining the role as King of England. He could often be found at the Balmoral Club in the company of a lady whom the British monarchy did not approve. This piece of the Caribbean was their escape from royal expectations and considered it their imposed exile.
In 1965, the Beatles stayed at a house on the grounds of the Balmoral Club and filmed a portion of their feature film “Help!”. The offshore island is where you may remember the famous “Another Girl” sequence from the movie.
Fast forward several years, the former hangout of the rich and famous is now a portion of the Sandals Royal Bahamian Resort. The Balmoral Tower still honors its history with many pictures and historical items from the past.
All Sandals resorts are considered ‘couples resorts’. This means you will not see anyone under the age of 18. Every room in the resort boasts a king size bed thus you are not likely to see girlfriend groups or bachelor parties. Dining areas offer seating in multiples of two. Lounge chairs, pool and beach side, are set together in pairs. The ideal clientele for the resort is couples; simply put.
Sandals Royal Bahamian offers a lot of the typical all-inclusive resort amenities. Food, beverages, non-motorized sports, pool activities, and more are included. Spa, motorized sports, and offsite excursions are additional costs.
The resort offers an offshore island that is accessible via a small ferry. The transfer is available all day throughout the day so don’t worry about ‘missing the boat’. The island boasts additional amenities such as two secluded beaches, pool with swim up bar, snorkeling, and a wonderful seafood restaurant, Schooners.
Like many of the other Sandals Resorts, select upgraded room categories include butler service for the extra touch of luxury. Other upgrade options to impress your special person are swim-up suites, walk-out suites with private patio, and outdoor tranquility soak tubs. Your stay can be designed around different levels of luxury and personalization to make your couples getaway special.
My favorite part of any vacation is the food. Sandals Royal Bahamian does not disappoint with eleven restaurants to choose from. To name a few, there is a buffet style restaurant at resort center, a French gourmet restaurant, a Japanese hibachi, and seafood on the pier. No matter your food preferences or how picky anyone in your travel party is, I guarantee you’ll find something to please everyone’s palate.
Depending on your vacation style or how you are feeling each day of your stay, there are two main pools that can suit your needs. The pool closest to Balmoral Tower is the ‘quiet’ pool. There is no loud music, no party scene, and no blenders used in the swim-up pool. However, if you prefer the loud music, the foam parties, the frozen drinks and more, the other pool located in the resort center is going to be more to your liking. Both pools are large, offer swim-up bars, and are surrounded by lounge chairs for your enjoyment.
